Huge thanks to Bala Cynwyd Middle School for helping us achieve our goal of creating for a cure!
Click here to read about our foundation on Bala Cynwyd Middle School's website! It's that time of year again! Welcome back to school and belated welcome back to all of those who have already started. We are looking forward to the year and busy collecting supplies for our first bag packing. We had a great end to the last school year with several productive drives and we can't wait to get those supplies to kiddos in treatment. Please consider picking up some extra supplies when you are stocking up for your kids. We do not require tissues or wipes!!!! As a reminder we accept brand new
Lucy's mom, Vashni, was nominated for a LOVE award by Philadelphia Family Magazine. The votes are in and she is now one of the Main Line Parents of the Year for her work with Lucy Belle's Rainbow. She is featured in The Philadelphia Family 2018 Best Families Guide. A special thank you to Lucy Belle's Rainbow Beverly Rusoff for submitting the nomination. Congratulations, Vashni and keep up the good work!
We had a great event this morning at Gladwyne Elementary School. Thank you to Susan Chang, Laura Chimento, The Gladwyne HSA, Principal Ellers and all the Gladwyne families that sent in art supplies and help to put them in bags. This crew packed over 100 bags with many supplies to spare! Also thank you to Tate for handing out some swag to all our hard workers. A special thank you to the National Board of Medical Examiners, who held an art supply drive at work and then took a lunch hour to pack 79 swag bags!!! Well done, crew! Check out their social media!
We did it! 2 days, 24 teams, 47 games, 4 tournament champions. Teams from The Lehigh Valley, Mt. Airy, Philadelphia, Wayne and Haverford. Many soft pretzels, pizzas, gatorades and Swedish Fish. A huge shout out to Gigi and Pop Pop, Aunt Raynay, Bev Russoff, Megan Carr, and many friends and volunteers. And kudos to Lower Merion Boy’s Travel Basketball for coordination of teams, schedules and refs. These teams were thrilled to play in The Kobe Bryant gymnasium. And wow, Lower Merion School District you knocked it out of the park! Or, court, in this case. We cannot thank you enough. Once we recover we can start planning for next year!!!! Lower Merion Boys AAU Basketball and Lucy Belle's Rainbow are proud to announce the first annual Crushing Kids' Cancer Classic, April 7th and 8th 2018. 5th, 6th and 7th graders from Lower Merion will complete with local teams at Welsh Valley Middle and Lower Merion High Schools to raise funds for Lucy Belle's Rainbow and a local cancer family.
Come see some great basketball and help a good cause! Lucy was very clear - she said no running, ever but she never said anything about basketball. And her brother is pretty darn good if I don't say so myself. More info to come! - Vashni Nilon, mother of Lucy Belle The Interschool Council of LMSD is presenting the ISC Art Show at the Main Line Art Center (see events page for address details). Over 400 pieces of art created by Penn Wynne Elementary School students and students from other districts, will be showcased. Donations for Lucy Belle's Rainbow will be collected at the event!
We are so proud of these Bala Cynwyd Middle School students for packing 114 bags! This was our third MLK Day of Service event and to date we have packed over 1500 swag bags for kids in treatment as well as donated $17,000 to the Art Therapy Department at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Together, we are making a difference for families. We are thankful to each and every one of you. Make Art and Smile! On Friday, January 12th the 8th grade students of Bala Cynwyd Middle School will be packing bags for Lucy Belle's Rainbow with items they have collected. This project is to commemorate the Martin Luther King Day of Service. The Lower Merion School District has a long history of Day of Service participation. We are honored to be a part of this effort. This event would not be possible without Georgine Heibeck at BCMS as well as our sponsor, School Specialty Supplies. School Specialty donated 200 sketchbooks and watercolor kits. Also a big thank you to all the students, families, faculty and administration student at BCMS. We cannot do this without you!
Local heroes took center stage at a very special Phillies Charities, Inc. Holiday Giving Party. The event saluted dozens of local charities and organizations making an impact in the community, and also recognized those who were selected to receive a 2017 Phillies Charities, Inc. grant. This past year alone, over $1.2 million was awarded by Phillies Charities, Inc. to charitable organizations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and in the communities of the Phillies spring training and minor league affiliates. Among those attending the event included Phillies’ Manager Gabe Kapler, General Manager Matt Klentak, President Andy MacPhail, Chairman David Montgomery, Chairman Emeritus Bill Giles, Managing Partner John Middleton, Partner Jim Buck, former President & Senior Advisor Pat Gillick, Senior Advisor to the General Manager Larry Bowa, and Phillies Charities, Inc. President John Weber. Also taking part were broadcasters Tom McCarthyand Gregg Murphy, as well as Phillies Director of Public Affairs Scott Palmer, the Phillies Ballgirls and many more front office members. Lucy Belle’s Rainbow was thrilled to be chosen as a 2017 grant recipient. Also thrilled to mingle with the Phillies front office (Larry Bowa!) and some amazing charities. We were truly humbled to be among such great company. The Phillies rolled out the red carpet, The Philly Phanatic and a jazz band. Lucy’s mom and grandfather were in attendance. Bev Rusoff and Christine Cavalier-Purpura created some amazing centerpieces for the event. Thank you, Phillies, for this amazing opportunity. Lucy Belle's Rainbow had an amazing morning helping Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in the 2017 Lemon Walk. We especially love and appreciate the photo of Lucy in the hero’s alley during the final stretch of the walk. Thank you to everyone who braved the cold and ran/walked for a cure!
